Maku
The maku are eaten by several indigenous groups across Australia and are considered to be a nutritionally important food resource that is integral to traditional life. Unique names are also assigned to wood moth ethnospecies, or species identified by a certain culture. These names reflect the knowledge of wood moth life history and ecology, which is required to harvest them. The cultural importance of these wood moths may also be reflected in the songs and dances associated with seasons when the larvae can be harvested.
