 Maureen Tjalumi Nelson (b.1973)

Maureen was born in Amata Community hospital on the APY Lands of South Australia and is the eldest daughter of Pitantjatjara artist Rene Nelson. Working in sculpture and on canvas, Maureen uses a strong, vibrant colour pallet to paint the landscapes of Pukurra and Pirrulyungkanya; the Tali (sand hill) Country of her father and grandfather. Developing her own distinct painting style, Maureen’s work is bold and colourful, depicting significant landmarks including rock holes and puli (hills). Maureen Nelson lives in Irrunytju (Wingellina) Community and paints with Minyma Kutjara (Two Sisters) Arts Project.
